Imagine a mix between Unlock and We were here

And here it is ! Vestiges is a one-shot board game in which you'll have to solve riddles in order to progress through the story and discover what this mysterious island has to offer. But in order to play, you'll need to divide into three teams, with each puzzle designated to be solved asymmetrically. Each team has a different set of clues, and you'll need to communicate to solve them. 

For this project, I took part in creating the game's flow as well as writing its story. My role was to determine the order in which the player would discover certain elements of the story, and to describe a complete universe in a few lines. I also had to take care of the brief for the game artists, who started work on the project a few weeks after us.

My work

We iterated a lot at the start of the project about how the game would unfold, before settling on a one-shot with puzzles. We had to think hard about how the game was going to work, without making the rules too difficult to understand and master. 

Creating the brief for the game artists was a real challenge, as our project was a puzzle game, and each card had to contain certain specific details for the game to work. I also had to convey the vibe of the universe we wanted to bring to the game, while giving the artists freedom to interpret certain elements. To do this, I was careful to differentiate between the important elements and those where the artists had more freedom.
